چکیده
We confront lattice QCD results on the transition from the hadronic phase to the quark–gluon plasma with hadron resonance gas and percolation models. We argue that for T ≤ Tc the equation of state derived from Monte–Carlo simulations of (2+1) quark–flavor QCD can be well described by a hadron resonance gas. We examine the quark mass dependence of the hadron spectrum on the lattice and discuss its description in terms of the MIT bag model. This is used to formulate a resonance gas model for arbitrary quark masses which can be compared to lattice calculations. We finally apply this model to analyze the quark mass dependence of the critical temperature obtained in lattice calculations. We show that the value of Tc for different quark masses agrees with lines of constant energy density in a hadron resonance gas. For large quark masses a corresponding contribution from a glueball resonance gas is required. ∗ Dedicated to Rolf Hagedorn

We report a project to study scalar particles by lattice QCD simulations. After a brief introduction of the current situation of lattice study of the sigma meson, we describe our numerical simulations of scalar mesons, σ and κ. We observe a low sigma mass, m π < m σ ≤ m ρ , for which the disconnected diagram plays an important role. For the kappa meson, we obtain higher mass than the experiment...

We show that in a quark model scheme the use of a screened potential, suggested by lattice QCD, instead of an infinitely rising one with the in-terquark distance, provides a more adequate description of the high-energy baryon spectrum. In particular an almost perfect parallelism between the predicted and observed number of states comes out throwing new light about the so-called missing resonanc...

We evaluate pseudoscalar, vector, spin 1/2 and spin 3/2 baryon masses predicted by lattice QCD with Wilson quarks in the valence (quenched) approximation for a range of different values of lattice spacing, lattice volume and quark mass. Extrapolating these results to physical quark mass, then to zero lattice spacing and infinite volume we obtain values for eight mass ratios. We also determine t...

In this invited contribution I briefly review some of the principal topics in hadron spectroscopy that were studied at the CERN low-energy antiproton facility LEAR, from its beginnings in the early 1980s to the present. The calculation of the light-hadron spectrum in the quenched approximation to QCD using an anisotropic clover fermion action is presented. The tuning of the parameters of the action is discussed, using the pion and ρ dispersion relation. The adoption of an anisotropic lattice provides clear advantages in the determination of the baryonic resonances, and in particular that of the so-called Roper...
